because finals are at the end the academic year not calendar year. here in the States, the school year starts in the fall or late summer (Aug or Sept) and end in May or June.
college and universities have finals at the end of each term. there's usually 2 semesters a year (fall and spring) and a summer session.
my friends in Japan though, they have a different school year. their new academic year starts in April and ends in March.

Finals are basically like an end of the year test just to see what you learned
you got it good though .I live in Georgia so i have to take this test called C.R.C.T. (Criterion Reference Competency Test) and I have to take final exams in my 5 core classes and my connection 8 connection classes I took for the year
