This page ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Appoggiatura#Appoggiatura ) might help a little in hearing what it sounds like. I don't play piano, but on my cello it was simply playing the grace note quickly before the attached note such that the time was not disrupted.
As I don't know the piece I'm sorry I can't help you there. As for the exam, I don't think it along will fail you. I've done Orchestra auditions with such techniques in them, and typically if they were in there it was because they wanted to make sure you knew the technique. If you didn't it meant you maybe weren't skilled or knowledgeable enough for that group.
Depending on how much emphasis it has been put in your class on Grace notes, it could be anywhere from nothing or something small, to a considerable chunk. Think about what your teacher normally puts emphasis on, that's most likely what he'll be looking for in the exam, to make sure you've learned what. Example. My old Orchestra teacher would harp on us for sitting up straight ALL the time. Normally, this doesn't play too big a role in exams unless it effects intonation and what not, but because it was her personal goal to make up sit up straight, there ended up being an entire section on our rubric just for if we sat up straight or not!
I hope that helps.
