What is State Test?Does it affect our grades?

My friend told me we were going to have a "State Test" tomorrow and the school called our parents today. What is State Test?Does it affect our grades?If it was important, our school should have told us about it like 2 weeks or 3 weeks ago to study. Do we have to pass it?Im in 9th grade btw and does this tell us about our performance in high school?

That would depend upon which State you live in, if it is a "State" test. At some states, there are tests to determine whether or not you can move up to honors or University Prep level courses. The majority of State tests are just to determine the overall effectiveness of the "school". Schools receive funding based upon average skill levels of their students. Those school districts where student's scores have increased between elementary school and grade 9 will get more funding.
