My teacher has been teaching AP Biology for over 20 years and she loves Princeton Review. I personally recommend that but I also recommend getting REA's "AP Biology Crash course." It's basically a sparknotes-type thing and it is possible the most helpful thing I have ever seen. Ever. Hope this helped~

RE:

Which one is better: BARRON'S AP Biology Review Guide v.s. PRINCETON REVIEW for AP BIOLOGY?

Starting the next school year, I will be taking an AP Biology class. One of the requirements is to buy one of these AP review books and I have no idea which one to buy. Comparing prices... both books are around the same price so I'm just curious about which one would be better to study from for...

Flip through both at the book store, the one that seems better organized for you is the better one for you. Neither is absolutely better than the other, the important thing is how you interact with it.

I use both books for various subjects.

The truth is, Baron's is a lot harder to understand, they have a lot more difficult reviews/questions. Whereas Princeton Review is very easy to understand, but they have general review material, without a lot of the specifics.

So if you want to thoroughly understand the material, you should get Barons (but understanding it is the hard part, it can get very boring).

If you just want a general, cumulative knowledge of the entire course, then you should get Princeton Review.

Personally I recommend that you get Princeton Review for a subject like AP Bio, it would be a lot easier for you.

I never took AP Bio, but I'd go with the Princeton Review. They helped me with all 10 AP tests I took, and are well-organized and easy to understand. Not to say that Barron's wouldn't be, but I liked the Princeton ones. (Granted that I haven't gotten the scores for the 6 test I took this year, lol, so who knows yet if it helped. But I did pass the 4 I took sophomore and junior year, and I always used the Princeton Review books.)

I recently took the AP Bio test and the Cliff Notes version (are you allowed to buy this one?) was excellent, and it was the one that my AP teacher recommended for the class.

You shouldn't read the other answers since they mostly didn't take AP Biology. Of course, both companies are very good at making test prep books, but it sometimes depends on the subject. As for AP Biology, which I took recently for one whole year, I bought three books for it: Barron's, Cliffs, and Princeton Review. And I'm almost 100 percent sure that Barron's AP Biology books is way better than the Princeton Review. The Printon Review is somewhat good, since it is a very easy read and it helps you understand some difficult concepts, but if you want to do well on the AP Biology exam, definitely get the Barron's. Barron's AP biology books have a lot of information you need to know to score good on the exam, and it has a lot of sample free response answers for you to memorize and use. In fact, the Princeton Reivew doesn't even help you on the free response question. Why bother to buy it. Finally, the Barron's book has 3 practice tests compared to the Princeton Reivew, which as 2 practice tests. Barron's also has wayy more questions throughout the book (like the chapter quizzes). The more questions, the better. So for AP Biology, definitely buy the Barron's book. The Princeton Review is okay, but not good enough to give you a 4 or 5. The Cliffs is pretty good too, so you might want to get that also. Well, good luck next year. That was one intense class! Trust me on this one!
