A 4.0 means you have all A's in all classes, however you can get a higher GPA in high school by taking AP clasess which give you and extra point for passing the class. The GPA is basically an average of all your grades:

A=4 w\AP 5

B=3 w\AP 4

C=2 w\AP 3

D=1 w\AP 2

F=0 w\AP 0

Lol, i like the answer Jon gave.

Um, 4.0 means that you get A's in every class. If you're looking into weighted GPA, then it's a different story. For weighted GPA, getting an A for a regular class is a 4, A for a honors class is a 5, A for an AP class is a 6. Just subtract 1 for B, 2 for C, and 3 for D's. This means that you can still get a weighted GPA of 4.0 if you get C's in all your AP classes.
