I really think it depends. Princeton Review Books are good (Cracking the SAT), and focus largely on strategy. Kaplan books are also good, but focus a bit more heavily on drills and practice. CollegeBoard publishing its own materials also, like the "Official Online SAT Study Guide," but that's pretty pricey. That focuses almost exclusively on practice. A really great book (I thought) was Princeton Review's "11 Practice Tests for the SAT." Remember that knowing strategies is important, but practicing a lot is also very, very helpful.

CollegeBoard prep books are the best. They're the only ones that are based on the real exams. The others are just a replica and not as accurate.

But if you want a book that comes with answers and explanations, then the Princeton Review books are the closest to the real tests. Just ignore the other prep books, like Kaplan. They suck.

Best of luck.

The SAT Prep includes two parts: practice tests and content review.

For content review, the "official SAT study guide" from college board is the best.

For content review, you should check the online video courses from http://www.northstarelearning.com/sat-video-courses

I took the video courses from above website and found they are quite comprehensive, concise, and focused. Moreover, watching the video courses to review the key concepts/skills/strategies is more interesting than reading books.

I also read several other SAT prep books, but none of them could comparable to the above video courses.

Good luck for your SAT prep.

I would first suggest The Official SAT Study Guide ($21.99) by College Board. This books is the only publication that contains tests created by the test maker. Beware of publications that contain simulated tests. I would not recommend practicing with simulated tests because that are not a true gauge of how you will do on the actual test. Also, it is not helpful for you to practice with questions that are not as close to the real test as possible.

To supplement your studies I would also suggest the PowerScore SAT Math Bible. This book contains over 375 practice problems with complete explanations and covers each question type tested on the Math section. Lastly, check out the SAT Essential Flashcards. This set of 200 flashcards contains 100 of the top Reading Comprehension words and the top 100 Sentence Completion words. You can check out all these publications at http://www.powerscore.com/sat/content_publications.cfm . Hope this helps! Good luck with your studies!
