Hi, Maria.
Congratulations on your excellent GPA! A 4.4 in honors classes is very good.
If you go to http://www.petersons.com, you'll find a lot of information about different colleges in the United States (both 2-year and 4-year institutions), including St. Olaf's College.
According to Peterson's, here is a profile of last year's freshman class:
Admission: 3,529 applied; 2,292 admitted; 793 enrolled
Average high school GPA: 3.67
Test Scores:
SAT critical reading scores over 500 97%
SAT math scores over 500 95%
ACT scores over 18 99%
SAT critical reading scores over 600 72%
SAT math scores over 600 72%
ACT scores over 24 87%
SAT critical reading scores over 700 28%
SAT math scores over 700 26%
ACT scores over 30 31%
About 65% of the students who apply to St. Olaf's College are accepted.
According to the Saint Olaf College website, here's a profile of the Class of 2011:
29 median ACT (middle 50%: 26–31)
1320 median SAT (middle 50%: 1210–1410)
660 median SAT verbal (middle 50%: 600–720)
650 median SAT math (middle 50%: 600–690)
Remember that "median" means half of students got an SAT /ACT score lower and half got an SAT/ACT score higher than the median. The "middle 50%" means exactly that: that's the score range for students who are higher than the bottom 25% but lower than the top 25%.
I'd say with a cumulative SAT score at or above the median of 1320 and your grades, as well as some strong letters of recommendation from teachers, and you should have a very good chance of getting into St. Olaf's.
Your next step is to talk to your high school counselor about registering for the SATs or the ACTs, preparing to take either of these exams, and preparing for admissions to several colleges. Your counselor will have lots of additional information to assist you. Saint Olaf's will accept either SAT or ACT scores.
According to the Saint Olaf College website:
During the review process, we consider test scores, grades and GPAs, but we also give weight to qualitative factors such as the breadth and depth of academic interests and evidence of leadership abilities. For statistical information regarding admitted and enrolled students over the past few years, please visit the St. Olaf by the Numbers page.
