Question:
Best excuse to reschedule a final college exam?

I have one exam on Monday, three exams on a Tuesday (which I will move around), and one on Friday.

I want to move the Friday exam so I can attend my boyfriend's family reunion. His grandmother is very old and sick, so I'd like to be present, in case this is the last time. Plus I've missed the past two years... FOR THIS VERY SAME REASON.

So, I will make up ANYTHING to get out of this.

The exam is in December. So I am going to try and organize this and bring my excuse to my professor's attention ASAP.

I've considered stating that I want to participate in a mission trip, which "flies out that Thursday".

OR making up that I have 3 exams on that day. Which is a half-truth, only not on the correct day... What's the risk he'll check?

I want to avoid sickness excuses at the last minute too..

Thanks

Do not lie. If you lie you could get expelled, seriously. You have to be honest and accept the decision. You just need to explain the situation and ask if you can take the test early -- never late. Understand that it is not the college's or professor's job to accommodate you. Even if you were going on a mission trip, it doesn't make a difference. Ultimately you need to decide if a family reunion is more important that your college credit.

Professors may ask for you to prove your excuse, so only use one that you can actually prove. The exam excuse isn't a good one, as it's so easy for him to either check that or to ask you to prove it. The mission trip might work, if there really is a mission trip.

Honesty might work as well. You're asking so far in advance, you really do have a family event (don't tell him it's your BF's event - tell him it's a family reunion. Tell him that you've missed it the past two years for finals. Tell him that you have an elderly family member who you're quite close to, who is ill, and who you want to see.) In other words, be honest, but leave out some of the details.

GIf this is the Friday before winter break starts, chances are a lot of of students are going to try to get it moved up so they can get home.

Tell the teacher now, you have a family reunion to attend, ask if you can take the exam eariler. Don't lie, most college teachers can spot a lie.

They will usually let you reschedule if you can get an obituary, it s kinda of a messed up lie but the most effective

I would suggest that you try not to manipulate your professor, and instead lay out your request and the circumstances very clearly. You didn't include your original message, so I can't judge whether the prof got the point of your circumstances, but the brief response implies that he might not have read carefully.

The best excuse is one that actually happens.
